There are different types of electrical sockets and different tow balls depending on your towing needs, including bike racks. We can give you all the help and advice you need in choosing the towbar that is right for you.
General electrical fault finding, maintenance and electrical repairs (including wiring repairs) for most makes and models of cars and light commercial vehicles.
As well as towbars, electrical fault diagnosis and repair, we supply and fit reversing sensors for almost any vehicle. These services are available at a time and place to suit you, wherever you are.
All the tow bars we fit are designed and manufactured to a high standard ensuring an excellent fit and durability. For example, Tow Trust towbars are 100% laser cut resulting in consistently manufactured parts that offer easy alignment when fitting. Further, Tow Trust towbars and accessories are e-coated which is around 10 times more durable than standard powder coated products supplied by other UK & European manufacturers. There are three types of towbar:
The flange towbar is a popular style. The towball is bolted to the towbar and will be black. It is a very versatile towbar as it can be used with towbar mounted accessories.
These towbars may not be suitable for you as they can be picked up by parking sensors and you may prefer a towball that looks neater.
The great thing about these towbars is that the neck of the bar can be unclipped when not in use so that little or nothing of the towbar is left on view. They are more expensive than flange towbars, but offer a number of advantages.
Some people prefer a swan neck towbar to a flange type as it looks tidier. It is cheaper than a detachable bar so may provide a good compromise. It is compatible with most cycle carriers.
We will provide all the advice you need about the electrical connectors that are best for you. There are three types of sockets:
This is most common and cost effective. It will fulfil all normal towing requirements - lighting boards, cycle carriers, caravans, trailers, horse boxes etc.
This provides the functionality of a twin socket but in a single connector. It is a sealed, secure connector and most caravans from 2009 will need this type of connector. This type of socket is commonly used on modern caravans and some bike carriers.
In addition to the functions of the single 7 pin, this also provides a permanent and switched power supply and reverse light function. It is used with leisure or secondary batteries, typically used for caravans. The permanent supply provides power when the engine is off and charges the second (caravan/leisure) battery when the engine is running. The switched supply powers the caravan electrics (eg fridge) when the engine is running. This type of socket is mainly used on older caravans.
Many modern vehicles have complex electrical systems on board, with advanced safety features that monitor a vehicle's road position and surroundings. For this reason it is becoming essential on an increasing number of cars that vehicle specific electric kits are fitted. These kits communicate with the vehicle's on board computers so the car is aware when it is towing and can act accordingly. Furthermore, on some cars, rear parking sensors can be deactivated automatically when towing, and alerts given if any lights are not working.

my tow bar was fitted at my home by a true pro called Derek from Auto Electrics. the price was great, a good make of bar with decent electrics was fitted to my car that I can not find fault with . he made sure the car was working properly before he left and tested every thing. his work was tidy and neat, all the wires are hidden out of site all bolts torqued up.
